Subject: Saving Face, Episode VII: This that and the other thing

Hi there.

I so desperately want to have something sparkly or fun to report, but really, this was just a nice relaxing week. I am wishing you all a wonderful weekend celebrating independence of any sort.

As always,

alice

p.s. The film is starting to close in some markets (it might be closing soon in New York City, San Francisco, etc) so if you know of anyone who wants to see it, now would be the time. Thanks again for your vigilance!

This was an incredible movie! I have seen it 3 times! Wil & Vivian are beutiful characters, and so are Michelle & Lynn, whom by the way nailed their parts!!! The story speaks to many who are not only Chinese, but who come from other cultures where sexuality, gender roles are "black and white". Oh, and just for the record, I am not Asian! :)

Loved the movie, loved the story, I can't wait to buy the DVD!! Anyone knows when it comes out? Oh and by the way, let's get these girls on the L Word! They are beautiful, and it would spice up the predominantly "white" cast! :)

Oooh - yes, let's try and get them on "the L Word" I think I remember reading an interview (I think on afterellen) about how they wanted to do that. How would we go about helping? Maybe write to Showtime?

This film finally released in Nashville this past Friday (I was scared that it wouldn't at all) and I finally got to see it. Twice! I loved it. I went with friends both times, and they loved it, too. I could relate to so much in the film as well. When I went Saturday night, there was a pretty nice turnout and the movie received a lot of laughs throughout (the first night, I went at a late showing so there wasn't as much people). Alice Wu did a wondeful job, Joan Chen stole the show, and Michelle and Lynn were fantastic. Add me to the list of folks who can't wait for the DVD (with great bonus features, hopefully!).

This movie just released in Vancouver, Canada last week. I watched it 3 times within a week!! I love it. I'm thinking of bringing my mom with me the 4th time. But then my mom's english level is just as great as "Ma". I hope the DVD will be out soon and with Chinese subtitle. haha... good job Alice!

i emailed sony picture classics about SAVING FACE and whether or not they were going to release a dvd for it (they would be idiots if they didnt) and the person who replied back said yes, they would. they dont have a release date yet because the movie is still playing in theaters. once that is through, they will decided on a date.

Damn it, I e-mailed Sony Picture Classics a long while back and they never responded to my e-mail.

Well, they stopped showing it here in San Francisco already (to my knowledge T^T) and I have this urge to watch it again - the DVD is a must.

They stopped showing it here, too (Nashville). I did manage to see it four times and brought different friends each time (who all loved it). Alice, if you read this, I hope you (and maybe your leading actresses, too) do commentary for the DVD!

I think I could feel how Wil's feeling, what she afraid of ,why she didn't ask vivian to stay by her, mabey I am the same person like her and atually it was painful. But I like that the director Alice Wu makes it seems more fun and less upset. After seeing this movie,I really feel better now.^_^
Thank You for Alice Wu!

Hello Alice,

I am very curious to know why Wil came out to her Ma by saying "I am gay" instead of honestly saying "I love Vivian?" Must we be gay to (fall in) love a same-sex person?,..or when we (fall in) love a same-sex person, we are automatically gay?

I thought that it was a contradictory point to the message that you wanted to bring out..that love has no inclinations...or does it??

I think I was sure that Wil furtively smelled Vivian's hair when they were in front of the vending machine.am I wroug?

Thank you Alice for the beautiful movie "saving face". I could not sleep after watching it at night. It is touching and lovely movie that I saw myself in the two beautiful characters Michelle and Lynn. I feel close to them partly I am Asian. I do hope you can make more movie like this so that people can have good sense about being lesbian. I love you Michelle, Lynn and of course Alice.
